Compulsion, a feature length drama, was commissioned by ITV in the UK. Parminder stars alongside celebrated British actor Ray Winstone in a tale of obsession and exploitation, based on a Jacobean tragedy, but set in London in the present day. The production had its British TV premiere on Bank Holiday Monday (May 4th 2009)
Anjika (Parminder) the daughter of wealthy Indian businessman Satvik, has just graduated from Cambridge University. Her student friends include Alex, a young man with whom she has formed a relationship while living away studying. Satvik intends that his only daughter should consider marriage to Hardik, the successful son of a business associate. Anjika has other ideas and seeks a solution that will enable her to follow her own path without alienating her family. The opportunity to resolve her dilemma manifests in the unlikely form of Don Flowers (Ray Winstone), who is employed as Satvik's chauffer. Though no fan of her fathers 'bag man', Anjika is tempted by his unexpected offer to assist her in escaping from an arranged marriage. She is, however, repulsed to learn that his services come at a heavy price - she must spend the night with him. The DVD release carries a 15 certificate, recognition of the fact that the production contains scenes of a fairly explicit sexual nature and some, though infrequent, strong language. |

Parminder's first 'post Beckham' project, a contemporary telling of Shakespeare's complex tale of love, jealousy and confused identity broadcast on Channel 4 in the UK on March 5th 2003. A strong and eclectic cast drawn from British TV and theatre and an original and visually arresting staging brought plaudits from both connoisseurs of 'The Bard' and the wider audience. Though Mindi had worked extensively in Twelfth Night was released in Region 2 DVD format by Channel 4 as part of a package intended as an educational resource for drama and media students. The two disc set features the complete play plus a four part documentary detailing the film's production process. The second disc includes interviews with cast members and the production team, including contributions from Parminder. It provides a fascinating insight into the whole process of TV production. The package is still available from the Channel 4 shop, albeit with a rather hefty £32.90 asking price. A Region One version of this film can be purchased as part of a two disc package which includes a production of 'Macbeth', another fine Shakespearian commission for Channel 4.
